The City of Tamapa’o

Tamapa’o, the City of Light, is the capitol of the Itsuri Empire, built near the historic site of the original Vision shrine. When I first came up with the city, I wanted it to have a unique geography, but struggled to get the angles and shapes consistently right. Finally, I decided the problem was that I was thinking about a 3D shape in a 2D way, so I made a model of it from newspaper and paper mache.
Once I had my model, I could take photographs from different angles and directions, but the shapes would always be consistent as a reference. Finally, I had my perfect shot, and drew the page.
Except, I did all this for my ORIGINAL intended beginning for chapter one. Which did not work AT ALL. Those six pages or so were scrapped, never to see the light of day, or the internet. Or so I thought. Of all the pages that got thrown out, this is the one that I felt the worst about losing, because I was really pleased with how it came out. So when the script turned to cryptic and ominous discussions, and I needed something to frame the voices against, I realized that there was no better backdrop to use than the city itself.
Huzzah for unintentionally working ahead.

Can I ask where you intended to start? Or is that SUPER-SECRET?
Originally it was going to start with a very dramatic ceremony that caused a direct confrontation with the god Vision. Except it didn’t make any sense to the story, broke the rules of the world, and messed with character behavior. Way too much focus was put on minor cast members, and not enough on the ACTUAL CAST. It was a mess. So off to the editing room floor it went!
I know *that* feeling.
