As many of you have guessed, Koa is my homage to the wonderful character Iroh from the Avatar the Last Airbender series. That said, other than the visuals and an obsession for brandy to rival Iroh’s adoration for tea, that is where most of the similarities end. Koa is a far more political and manipulative being than Iroh, although his intentions are typically good despite his mannerisms. Vekken really has no idea what he’s gotten himself into by secretly joining forces with the va Momuru family.

Oh, Pakku. You are so deliciously awkward. And I love Vekken’s expression in the last panel. It’s adorable.
Vekken’s the new kid on the block from the “upstart, lawless province” and as a result spends most of his time isolated from his peers. This is an unexpected change of pace for him.
