C05P04 – Guess I was wrong

We last saw the lieutenant on this page when he asked Lu Pai to “make it convincing”. Now you get to see what he meant! Would you be fooled? And do you think Warren will be?
As part of the Spider Forest group, we’re doing a comic a week! This week’s feature is Willow’s Grove. Max (a dog) & Bob (a lizard) were taking their usual walk in the woods surrounding Willow’s Grove when Bob found a spaceship. The spaceship took off with them in it, leaving a pair of replicants behind to take their place, and whisked them off into space. Turns out an organization called the Central Nexus leaves sleeper ships on planets, hoping unsuspecting folks will go on board and the ship would kidnap them, bring them to the processing center where they would become slaves of the Nexus, hauling goods from planet to planet under control of the Nexus. Max & Bob, with the help of their new friend Nick (a cat from Earth who had been kidnapped over a year ago), foil their plan and reprogram the ship for them to be able to head back home. Unfortunately, the ship, having detected the intruder Nick, zaps him while he is too close to the navigation computer wiping it out and leaving the crew lost in space.

*clap-clap*:D
*bows* Thank you, thank you, you are too kind! I’ll be here all week.
and THAT is a good thing
If I was him I would be insulted that it didn’t seem worth consulting him on!
Oh, believe me, Warren shares your feeling on that. A lack of respect from his men are one of the many reasons he’s so grumpy all the time!
Having been in the Chief’s position in the Navy, I can tell you that kind of lack of respect is like a thorn…very irritating!
I just found your comic yesterday on Spider Forest, and have read through the entire thing. Your artwork is beautiful, the colors are amazing, and the story exceeeds both. It will be added to the list I check every day. I am rather disapointed I didn’t have the opportunity to submit one of the blood moths, as one of my own characters seems… Remarkably similar to what you are describing, but I’ll just have to watch for more opportunities in the future. Thanks for the comic, and keep up the great work
Welcome, welcome! And thank you so much for the lovely comment!! I try to run little fun reader-oriented events every now and again (mostly because I just like hearing from you guys!) so you’ll probably have some opportunities in the future!
You’ve got me intrigued by the mention of one of your own characters! Are you an author, an artist? Is there some place you share your work online?
I have recently started what I hope will one day be my own webcomic, it isn’t nearly ready to put online (it’ll probably be close to finished by the time I do that), but I’ve had this idea bouncing around in my head for over a year now, and as I have JUST gotten to the point that I no longer have to work I thought I’d put it down on paper, that being said…I’m something close to a perfectionist and rather detail oriented, so each page takes me over 3 hours
The more you do it, the faster you get! When I started my first comic it took me 8 hours to do a single page. By the end of Shades of Grey, I was down to two. LeyLines pages typically take me 5 hours to make — so you can do it!! Don’t worry and GO FOR IT!!
*smiles* thanks
I certainly appreciate it!
I can’t predict whether Warren will be fooled, but whether he is or not will definitely shape what I think of him!
I imagine your opinion of Warren will probably change quite often as the story progresses. He’s been one of those characters that has surprised even me when writing him, and there’s some pretty big events for him to tackle in the distant future!
That’s exciting! I looooove dynamic characters like that
Do I detect some sass in that comment? That seems like a bad idea. But maybe it’s a bad idea to stroke Warren’s ego, since he’s got such a complex about his position…
Oh, your sass-meter most definitely is detecting some sass. You have your device properly calibrated and ready for testing.
Gruesome details, yes, but what’s making this scene is the lighting. Just marvelous.
There’s also a good sense of timing, which is tricky to pull off in a three panel page, but here’s it’s done well.
Glad you’re enjoying it! I wanted the lighting to be very stark and unfriendly. Tense, just in the shadows alone!
