Amya

Are you on a quest to find a comic with a sprawling and original world, interesting and unique characters, high-fantasy magic and adventure, and excellent writing and art? The search is over! Amya is all of these things and more.
Creators Savannah Houston-McIntyre, Andrew Hewitt, and Rebecca Gunter have crafted a beautiful tale about “a mute spell-touched and her unlikely companions as they were pulled into an adventure that was greater than any of them could have anticipated; or ever expect to fulfill.” The mute in question is named Faye, and visions of calamity and despair haunt her dreams. After a chance meeting with a care-free runaway prince, Faye’s life gets a lot more dangerous, complete with kidnappers, strange immortal monsters, and wicked betrayal. Now her nightmares seem like more than frightening phantasms — and getting back home may mean a choice between her life and saving the world.
While Amya has many of the trappings of “typical” high fantasy, the attention to detail, both in story and visuals, adds depth to this tale that is anything but typical. Amya is a wonderful slow-burn story, where the tension mounts gradually, building momentum at a rate that promises to be truly epic by the end. The artwork is a lovely accompaniment to the story, richly realizing the tale and its world. Characters are expressive, dynamic, and intriguing. There’s always a new layer to discover with a new aspect of their personality or history to uncover.
On a more personal note, Savannah and her son have both been enduring serious medical issues. A few months ago I contacted her and asked if there was anything I could do. Her response was a simple request: please share Amya with a friend.
That spoke to me of a creator that is truly passionate about her story and cares deeply for the community around it. It is for that reason that I am a proud supporter of their IndieGOGO campaign to raise money for printing Volume Three, and I sincerely hope you give it a look. They’ve got some great perks available to thank donors for their support. Personally, I’ve claimed the perk for the printed copies of 1, 2, AND 3 — which I am already reserving a spot for on my shelves! I personally find no greater cause than supporting worthy creators making great work, and Amya is no exception.
