Sometimes things just don’t work out. That last panel has been such a frustration, particularly since I loved the dialog, but could NOT get the expressions to work. This was my best attempt out of about six different tries, and I’m still not happy with it. However, I decided that my perfectionist tendencies were obviously not going to get me anywhere (unless you count a shabby hotel room at the Town o’ RAGE) so I accepted this version as “good enough” and will try to do better in the future. I think what’s the most frustrating is that my rough thumbnail sketch of that panel looked AWESOME, which is almost always a guarantee that the actual panel won’t work. I get so hung up on getting it to match the rough exactly that I lose the feel of that particular moment.

What do you do when you can’t get an image to come out right?

Hmm. Generally, I leave it be while I go off and be irritated for a while and wrack my brain to try to think of how else to work it. Eventually, I get distracted by something shiny and I forget about the whole thing. When I do finally go back to it, something just clicks, and I say “Oh! That was easy.” Perhaps a step back and a short break would do you good 🙂

Also, when working with odd perspectives, try to have someone model for you. If that’s not possible, take some digital photos of yourself in that pose to study from.

I use a lot of photo and video reference. The only downside to it is that my body type =/= my character’s body types!

Leaving something alone I struggle with. I tend to dig my teeth in and not let go! Unfortunately, this usually just makes things worse. Someday, I’ll learn when to let things go!

That is an excellent point! And much more difficult to deal with.

I admire your ability to be able to focus so well on something – I’m so easily distracted!

This really shows the whole “Brother Sister” relationship between the two.

Okay, I probably haven’t said it, but Tama? yeah, my favorite character thus far.
