Bit by bit, we’re peeling back the layers of this trickster knowledge god. I hope you enjoy this rare glimpse of exposition from a highly biased source.

We’re in the last two weeks of the school year, which will mark the end of my first experience as part of the education system and the complete shift in career path. I always get melancholy at the conclusions of things. So many things have changed in my life and are continuing to change. The future is still a looming uncertainty, but a hopeful one. I still have so much to learn in every area that it’s a little overwhelming sometimes and encouraging other times. The kids I’ve been working with have become a large part of my life, and it’s odd to think that in two weeks they’ll go on and continue growing up, and I may never see them again. They’ll become teens and adults, and do all sorts of things, and perhaps they’ll remember Mrs. Childs, or perhaps I won’t even make the footnotes of their thoughts. I hope the impact I have had was a positive one, remembered or not. I’ve certainly seen them grow and change already in so short a time and I’m glad and honored to have been a part of that process.

I think I’ll make them each a button with their name in Pamaru as a parting gift. Who knows? Maybe someday one of them will come up with worlds and languages of their own.

What kind of impact do you hope to have on the people in your life?

I have that thought a lot lately. Been teaching kids chess in schools, and I wonder – in 10, 15 years, are they going to remember their chess teacher for a year, Coach Kris? Are they going to remember me in a year? What are they going to be like? It’s weird and kinda cool.
